FAQs
Why should I begin music classes with my child at such an early age? What could a newborn
possibly learn?
There is a great deal of research demonstrating that the first few years of a child’s life
is a crucial time in their brain development. Nursery rhymes, music, physical touch, interaction
with others, and reading time are all key to healthy brain development. Time Magazine produced an article
Fertile Minds that goes into more detail.
I’m concerned about young children sharing germs. Will
this be a problem in these classes?
After every class, every piece of equipment is cleaned using non-toxic cleaner agents
such as Seventh Generation. During the class, instruments are not freely passed around.
Children are always assisted in handling a musical instrument. If, during class, a child
manages to put an instrument or book in his mouth, that item will be set aside or immediately
wiped down. Lastly, hand sanitizer is available in the classroom.
Will the class be using toys or nice musical instruments?
We use many brand-name, high-quality instruments such as Studio 49, Rhythm Tech, and
Meinl. These instruments have beautiful, ringing tone and rich sound, and cannot be
compared with the sound of toy instruments. This allows your child to be exposed to
beautiful, live music and sounds. In addition, we occasionally bring in guest musicians
to showcase instruments, such as guitar, violin, or flute. Sometimes the guest musician
is an adult, and sometimes an older child, which is great fun.
What kind of training does the instructor have?
Christina David is a violinist with a music degree in violin performance, and over ten
years of experience teaching and performing music. She has registered over 100 hours of music
teaching training with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, which includes over 25 hours of
training in Early Childhood Music Education. For more information, please see the About page.
How big are the classes?
Class enrollment is limited to 12 children, and each child is partnered with a parent or caretaker.
Can the songs we sing in class be found on a recording for listening at home?
Yes! Every student receives a cd and lyrics booklet upon enrollment. Listening and singing
along at home and in the car is of great benefit to your child.
